The UK Carrom Association

The aim of the UK Carrom Association (UKCA) is to encourage and spread the game of carrom throughout the UK. It is there to provide a useful resource for all carrom enthusiasts.

It was formed in 1986 as the UK Carrom Club (UKCC) and was run by Ram Chatlani and Paula Davies. In 1999 Ram and Paula requested a break from running the club and asked for volunteers to take over.

In 2000 a committee of six was formed to apportion the workload and take the club forward. It was also decided to change the name from UKCC to UKCA as it was more appropriate as an association of smaller carrom clubs rather than as one big club with branches throughout the UK.

The committee thank Ram and Paula for all the hard work they have put in over the first 13 years.

The main differences between the clubs that belong to the UKCA and some carrom clubs that are Affiliated/Associated to the International Carrom Federation (ICF) are - we use polished boards that do not require powder, we use resin pieces instead of the traditional wooden ones and we opt not to use backshots in our league matches and tournaments. A more detailed comparison between ICF laws and rules adopted by UKCA is available on the Game Explained page.

Membership of the UKCA will involve an annual fee that will provide the following benefits - Reduced cost enrolment in the National Tournament; reduced cost enrolment at other UKCA club tournaments; receipt of 'The Pocket' Newsletter; and free admission to other affiliated UKCA clubs, all this plus being in touch with what's happening in the world of Carrom.

If you would like to join send your name, postal address, e-mail address, evening phone number to Terry Moldrich and he will let you know what the current annual subscription fee is.
