Equipment needed

The splash page showed you what a basic carrom board looks like. However, if you are new to this game do not feel you have to buy a board to play the game. Just come down to one of the local clubs. New players will be made most welcome. The club provides all the equipment. All you need is an accurate flicking finger.

Once you get the carrom bug you will want to improve your game. In that case your first investment will be in a striker that suits your style of play.

Later, to improve your chances of getting to the top of the league table, you would probably consider buying your own board to practise on.

Karum is one of the best places to buy a board that is made and finished by hand. These boards do not require any surface powder, they are specially treated and require an occasional lightweight domestic furniture polish. Also, resin pieces are used.

Richiard White no longer trades under the name of Karum. He still manufactures high quality non-powder carrom boards with different designs and these are available through Make Believe.
